Our thoughts and prayers are with Lorrie Morgan, who has canceled several upcoming performances and appearances, amid her husband’s health struggles. Morgan revealed a year ago that her husband, Randy White, had been diagnosed with mouth cancer. White, who has been undergoing treatment, has recently been hospitalized.
Morgan was currently on the road with Alabama, as part of their Live in Concert 25 Tour. She will be replaced for the next two weeks by Pam Tillis.
Morgan has yet to publicly comment on her husband’s illness. She previously asked for prayers for White’s ongoing health issues.
“We thank you for your prayers,” Morgan said when revealing her husband’s diagnosis last year. “I asked my team to release this information today … We deeply appreciate the prayers and well wishes, and for continued support and privacy as we focus on Randy’s health and on our family at this time.”
Morgan and White have been married since 2010. She was most famously married to Keith Whitley, whom she wed in 1986. They were married when Whitley passed away in 1989, from acute alcohol poisoning.
In 2022, Whitley was posthumously inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
“I thought about this all day today, and there are no words,” Morgan said when accepting the honor on his behalf. “I’ve gone through everything that Keith would be feeling that I feel like I knew pretty well. He would feel so undeserving. That was a wonderful thing about Keith. He was so one of us. He loved all these Hall of Fame members. He was such fans of everybody, the musicians he loved, the musicians, the songwriters.”
Morgan vividly remembers the first time she heard Whitley on the radio, falling instantly in love with his voice.
“I was on my way to sing the Saturday night Opry,” Morgan recalled. “I heard this song come on the radio and this voice singing ‘Miami, My Amy,’ and I pulled my car off of Briley Parkway and I sat there and I thought, ‘I’m in love with that man.’ I didn’t know who it was at the time. And right when he was done singing, Keith Bilbrey said, “That is the great Keith Whitley with No. 15 in the nation this week with ‘Miami. My Amy.’ And he’s coming up on the 8:30 spot of the Grand Ole Opry.’ And I floored my car.”
Morgan will celebrate her 41st anniversary of becoming a Grand Ole Opry member on June 9. When she was inducted in 1984, Morgan was just 24 years old.
“I was one of the only members who hadn’t yet had a hit record,” Morgan recalled. “I grew up at the Opry, and my dad [Opry star, George Morgan] first introduced me when I was 13 years old. From that moment, I pestered Hal Durham, the GM of the Opry, to make me a member. I love the Opry; always have and always will. It is my home.”
Updates to Morgan’s tour schedule will be posted at Lorrie.com as available.
