Lorrie Morgan is asking for prayer for her husband, Randy White who is battling mouth cancer. The singer shared the news on social media.
“We thank you for your prayers,” Morgan posted. “I asked my team to release this information today … We deeply appreciate the prayers and well wishes, and for continued support and privacy as we focus on Randy’s health and on our family at this time,”
Morgan, who married White in 2010, is currently on her Ruby Anniversary Tour, celebrating the upcoming anniversary of her Grand Ole Opry induction, which took place on June 9, 1984, when Morgan was just 24 years old.
“I was one of the only members who hadn’t yet had a hit record,” Morgan recalled. “I grew up at the Opry, and my dad [Opry star, George Morgan] first introduced me when I was 13 years old. From that moment, I pestered Hal Durham, the GM of the Opry, to make me a member. I love the Opry; always have and always will. It is my home.”
Morgan will be honored with a tribute at the Grand Ole Opry on June 8. She is also working on a new album, Dead Girl Walking.
“Where I am in my life right now, I’m not afraid to express what I feel,” Morgan said. “I’m not afraid to express my views on anything, especially on being a woman and my experiences in this business and in life.”
Morgan was formerly married to Keith Whitley, who passed away in 1989 from alcohol poisoning. She was on hand when Whitley was posthumously inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2022.
“In my heart, this feels like an absolutely appropriate honor, but at the same time, I know that Keith would be painfully humbled, and even shy about accepting an induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame,” Morgan said when news of his induction was announced. “Music was all about emotion to Keith. It was personal. There were so many great artists he admired, even worshipped. To stand in their company in the Hall of Fame would’ve been overwhelmingly emotional for him.
“I am thrilled to see him honored this way,” she added, “and for what it means to my children, Morgan and Jesse Keith; to Keith’s grandchildren; the Whitley family; and to the many, many fans who continue to point to Keith as one of the all-time greats.”
The 64-year-old is also reportedly working on a new memoir. Keep track of updates at Lorrie.com.
