Luke Bryan has done what few artists have done, in any genre. The Georgia native has an astonishing 31 No. 1 hits to his credit, with “Love You, Miss You, Mean It” being the latest one to top the charts. It’s hard even for Bryan to wrap his head around.
“I’ve tried to approach my career and the business to never take a day for granted,” Bryan tells CMT. “Never take a hit song for granted. So … 31 is really hard for me wrap my brain around. It’s a testament to the fans supporting me throughout the years. Whether I’m on stage or writing music or recording songs, I just always try to put them first, and make sure that I can do a song that relates to them.
“‘Love You, Miss You, Mean It’ certainly feels like it has been,” he continues. “To have it be No. 31 is pretty crazy. When I go back and look at the list of 31, it freaks me out. I don’t wanna keep talking about it, ’cause I’m scared the streak’s gonna end.”
Of all the songs Bryan has released in the last 18 years, “Love You, Miss You, Mean It” is among his favorites.
“When I heard the song, it just kind of made me think about my marriage and my relationship with my wife,” Bryan tells his record label. “We kind of dated in college, took some time off and then we finally got back together. So this song tells the story of young love taking a little break and then circling back around and making it happen.”
Bryan could add to his list of chart-topping singles later this year. The 48-year-old has a Top 40 hit with “Country Song Came On.” The song is from his latest Mind of a Country Boy album, released last summer.
“’Country Song Came On’ is like a honky tonk gem for me,” Bryan says of the song. “When I heard it, I was like, it brings me back to the days when I was playing a lot of honky tonks early in my career. And the fact that I was able to put ETC, which is a nod to Earl Thomas Conley, one of my favorite artists ever, just makes me smile every time I hear it. And this song will definitely make you want to drink a draft beer.”
