Luke Bryan‘s video for his latest single, “Country Song Came On,” is out now. The song, which is currently in the Top 25, is from Bryan’s latest Mind of a Country Boy album, released last September.
“’Country Song Came On’ is like a honky tonk gem for me,” Bryan says of the uptempo track. “When I heard it, I was like, it brings me back to the days when I was playing a lot of honky tonks early in my career. And the fact that I was able to put ETC, which is a nod to Earl Thomas Conley, one of my favorite artists ever, just makes me smile every time I hear it. And this song will definitely make you want to drink a draft beer.”
“Country Song Came On,” written by Ryan Beaver, Dan Alley and Neil Medley, is a song that Bryan relates to on a lot of levels.
“I’ve certainly been drawn in, no shortage of times, by the vibes of a bar, and the right songs and the right ambience,” Bryan tells Billboard.
The Georgia native is well-versed in small bars and clubs, thanks to his rural upbringing.
“From the time I was 16 years old till I got my record deal, I [played] most of my concerts in little bars and honky tonks,” Bryan says, “So I spent a good 12, 13 years playing in those environments and playing the Merle Haggard songs and the Waylon Jennings songs and the Keith Whitleys and all that. So it’s nice to find one like this that really is authentically me.”
With the “Country Song Came On” quickly making its way up the charts, it’s possible Bryan could soon have his 32nd No. 1 hit. He admits has a hard time coming to terms with all of his success.
“I’ve tried to approach my career and the business to never take a day for granted,” Bryan told CMT, after “Love You, Miss You, Mean It” became his 31st chart-topping single. “Never take a hit song for granted. So … 31 is really hard for me wrap my brain around. It’s a testament to the fans supporting me throughout the years. Whether I’m on stage or writing music or recording songs, I just always try to put them first, and make sure that I can do a song that relates to them.
“‘Love You, Miss You, Mean It’ certainly feels like it has been,” he continued. “To have it be No. 31 is pretty crazy. When I go back and look at the list of 31, it freaks me out. I don’t wanna keep talking about it, ’cause I’m scared the streak’s gonna end.”
Bryan will embark on his Country Song Came On Tour on May 29 in Bethel, New York. Before he hits the road for that tour, he will head west for three Farm Tour dates in California, taking place on May 15, 16 and 17.
