Maren Morris’ last show was at the Houston Rodeo on March 7. After that performance, she planned on staying off the road for several weeks, while she adjusted to being a mom to her newborn son, Hayes Andrew Hurd, born on March 23. She was scheduled to kick off her headlining RSVP: The Tour on June 5, which has to be postponed due to COVID-19. But one thing is certain, when Maren does hit the road again, she will be more than ready.
“I will never complain again about playing a show, or an early flight to get to a show, after this,” Maren maintained on CBS This Morning, while appearing with The Highwomen to discuss their new single, “Crowded Table.” “I’m so ready to play music again.”
Not that Maren minds being at home, especially now, since she has her husband, Ryan Hurd, and infant son with her.
“Having this baby has been the most beautiful distraction from the outside world,” Maren acknowledged. “I feel very cocooned at home with Ryan, my husband, and our baby. That’s been an amazing miracle to have.”
Hayes is of course too young to remember any of this, but the proud mother is making sure she documents the moments so he can at least understand what life was like when he entered the world.
“I was writing in his baby book, ‘Hey, we can’t go anywhere the first month of your life, because there’s a global pandemic happening,'” Maren said. “He’ll be able to read this one day, and be like, ‘What the hell?'”
Still, Maren is ready to hit the road as soon as she can, even though she has no idea when that will be.
“It’s kind of weird, being a musician and a touring artist, which is seen as very non-essential right now,” Maren said.
The Texas native is also anxious to gather with fellow Highwomen members Natalie Hemby, Amanda Shires and Brandi Carlile, as soon as it is safe.
“I can’t wait to, one day, be at an actual table with these women again, and break bread, and do what the song says,” Maren noted.
Maren was scheduled to kick off her RSVP: The Tour on June 5. Currently, Maren’s next scheduled show in on October 31, rescheduled from the original date of June 26. Updates can be found at MarenMorris.com.
