MercyMe is back with a brand-new, and timely, single, although the band had no idea exactly how important the song would be when it was written.
‘Hurry Up And Wait’ is a new song we started well over a year ago,” lead singer Bart Millard said in a statement. “We didn’t plan on it taking this long to get out, but it is pretty timely that it’s finally ready. It reminds us that those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength. I know we can all use a little extra strength these days.”

MercyMe has had a string of hit singles for 20 years, including “Homesick,” “Bring the Rain,” “Greater,” their recent single, “Almost Home,” and their record-breaking “I Can Only Imagine,” which became the story behind a blockbuster movie, released in 2018. The film was based on Bart’s own life, with Dennis Quaid playing Bart’s troubled father.
“All of the stuff I’ve went through, it just feels like it’s not so much in vain if I’m able to kind of share the story and connect with people that maybe go through the same stuff and feel like they’re completely alone,” Bart previously told PopCulture.com. “I think it’s just what being in ministry is about, and so it just seemed to make sense. I was just more afraid it was going to be done poorly than anything and was thrilled with the way it turned out.”
