Michael Ray has a new song, out now. The Florida native just released “Hold,” likely from his next album.
The song says in part, “Hold a beer, don’t hold a grudge / Hold on to the ones you love / You can hold your cards but boy know when to fold them / Hold on to your beliefs, don’t hold back on all your dreams / Make some memories before the good Lord calls you home / There’s a lot of things in life worth letting go / But the ones that mean the most you got to hold.”
“This one is so special to me,” Ray shared on social media. “It’s about keeping what really matters close to you.”
The new song comes as Ray recently celebrated a Top 40 hit with “Spirits and Demons,” his duet with Meghan Patrick. The song is from his Dive Bars & Broken Hearts album, released last June.
“We went through so many thoughts and names; they were all great, but nobody felt quite right,” Ray said of choosing a singing partner for the collaboration. “And it’s funny, because the answer was right under my nose. I’ve been friends with Meghan for years, in the way you’ve got your ‘Hey, I’m off the road. Wanna grab a beer?’ friends when you’re home for two or three days.
“So many of us are out there weeks at a time, chasing the dream,” he continued. “When you’re always gone, those friends who get you and get the commitment it takes, where you pick up right where you left off? They’re gold. Meghan’s not only a friend and a great hang, no matter who’s around, she’s got a voice that can blister concrete – and a gift to reach right into a song and rip its heart out, put it in her throat and meet you line for line with some intense emotions.”
As soon as Dive Bars & Broken Hearts was released, Ray hinted that he was already working on new music to share with his eager fans.
“We’re talking about going in soon to start the next side,” Ray hinted to Everything Nash. “I’m writing, and listening to a lot of songs, getting set up to get in the studio as soon as we can, and not let much time slip by. We want to try to keep things close together. I’m excited.”
Dive Bars & Broken Hearts also included “Workin’ On It” and “Don’t Give A Truck,” among others, songs that just made him even more excited to share more with his fans.
“These first six just got me so excited,” Ray explained. “Not that I was ever out of love with music, but it really put a new love in me for what I’ve always loved, and a new passion and excitement for writing and creating. So I’m excited to get back in, and get back in the studio soon.”
