Good news, Michael W. Smith fans! The singer just announced he will host a drive-in concert in Franklin, Tennessee, complete with his full band. The show will take place on Saturday, May 30, at the Williamson County Ag Expo Center.
“This is going to be a fun night. I am so excited to see everyone, perform and lead worship in person again,” Michael said in a statement. “I just think it is going to be so unique, a night we will all remember.”
The 62-year-old just achieved a new career milestone, with his single, “Waymaker,” which marked his first No. 1 on Billboard’s Christian Airplay chart.
“It’s great that it went to No. 1, but if it didn’t, I’d be totally fine with it,” Michael conceded to Billboard. “One of the most important things for me is that people are connecting with this song all around the world, and not just by me, but by other artists, as well. I think it’s just an important song and I have found myself in this situation before.
“It’s the right song for the time,” he continued.”It seems to be everyone’s go-to song and it’s helping people get through what’s sort of an unprecedented time. So, while it doesn’t make me tick to have chart success, I am also very grateful and especially thankful for my team that worked so hard.”
Michael has been hosting a weekly Worship Around the World series, during the coronavirus pandemic, which can be found on his social media channels. He is also working on a TV special.
Concert audio will be available on a designated FM radio channel. LED screens will also be mounted, allowing everyone a good view of the show. Gates will be open at 5:00 PM, with the show starting at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $40 per car. More information can be found by visiting his website.
