Three of Christian music’s biggest acts are hitting the road –– together! Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman and Mac Powell will head out on their Drive-In Theater Tour, kicking off on July 16 in Watertown, Tennessee.
“These kinds of tours have never been done before and I love a great adventure, no pun intended,” Michael told MusicRow.
Steven is equally excited, sharing the good news on social media.
“I can’t tell you how excited I am to announce that I’m going back on tour with with two great friends and amazing artists, makin’ music and singing about the Truth…again…TOGETHER…finally!” Steven posted. “Tickets go on-sale TOMORROW at 11am CT.”

Steven previously spoke to Everything Nash about people’s fears and uncertainty during COVID-19, offering a message of hope in the uncertain times.
“God has not forgotten us,” Steven insisted. “We are not only on His radar, but we’re all in His hands. And it may not seem that way. I get it … We’re still breathing and we’re still believing and we’re still walking. And so I would just offer that as an encouragement to people from our own experience, that God is with us in this. And as hopeless as it may seem and feel, let that drive you to not go deeper inside yourself to all the questions and the fear and the doubt, but reach out to each other and realize that’s one of the places that I believe God shows up the most profoundly is just in each other.”
Michael recently performed a drive-in show in Franklin, Tennessee, which was his solution to finding a way to play in front of his fans, while keeping everyone safe due to the coronavirus pandemic at the same time.
“It is odd and wonderful all at the same time that we’re doing something that’s very unprecedented, caused by a pandemic,” Michael admitted to The Tennessean. “Four (thousand) or 5,000 people in their cars, pulling up. I mean, that’s crazy! I just think people are kind of excited about doing something that’s never been done before.”
The idea for the tour arose from the singers’ collective desire to offer support to their fans, especially now.
“We just want people to be encouraged to hang in there,” Mac said. “All of us have a new reality, at least for right now. For us to be able to come together and make music, I know every time I’m around these guys and the band, I’m encouraged, so we want to do that for each other and in turn cast that out to the audience, and encourage people to stay strong.”
All three artists will perform together on stage. Tickets, which will be sold per carload (of up to six people), will be available beginning on Friday, June 5. at AwakeningEvents.com.
