Miranda Lambert, Bobby Bones and Lindsay Ell are just a few of the celebrities who will be appearing in a scripted new podcast, Make It Up As We Go. The podcast follows the storyline of an aspiring young female songwriter, played by Scarlett Burke, also stars Dennis Quaid, Billy Bob Thornton and Craig Robinson. Nicolle Gaylon will contribute music, along with Miranda, Scarlett and Lindsay.
“I built a career telling stories, specifically through music,” Miranda explained to People. “I was drawn to a new form of storytelling with podcasts, which I have never done before. The main character, played by Scarlett Burke, and her challenges as an aspiring singer/songwriter are ones that I can relate to firsthand, which really captivated my attention.”
Miranda knows firsthand what it is like to be a rising star. The singer, who just celebrated a No. 1 hit with “Bluebird,” moved to Nashville as a young adult, and never looked back.
“I came to Nashville 18 years ago and really started cutting my teeth as a songwriter and performer,” Miranda recalled. “So I can relate to the trajectory of a singer/songwriter’s career that comes with many highs and lows. This story captures those moments in a compelling narrative.”
Bobby, who is also serving as an executive producer for Make It Up As We Go, along with Miranda, shared a clip on social media of a behind the scenes look of the new podcast.
New podcast coming soon. I’m an exec producer and am also doing some work in it too. Lots of great folks in this. https://t.co/adKcP64nXz

“I think so many people wonder what actually happens behind the scenes,” Bobby shared in the video. “How do songs become hits? … The goal of the podcast is to actually break a big ol’ song. That’s what I do every day. This is just another outlet for that.”
In addition to working on Make It Up As We Go, Miranda is also adjusting to being off the road, due to COVID-19.
“The first month I had a lot of fun,” Miranda admitted to New York’s 94.7 radio station. “Well, not fun but I was like, ‘OK, we’re off. We’ll probably be back on the road in a couple of months.’ I cooked too much and ate way too much, and then I had to roll that back a little bit.
“There’s stuff to do,” she added. “It’s just the adjusting of not knowing when I’m going to work again. It’s uneasy.”
Make It Up As We Go will premiere on October 1 through the iHeartPodcast network.
