Miranda Lambert on How She is Spending Her Time at Home: ‘I Haven’t Been Writing Novels or Songs’

Miranda Lambert didn’t plan on having several months at home this year, but was forced to postpone her Wildcard Tour due to COVID-19. The time off the road has given her an unprecedented amount of free time, which she is spending doing — maybe for the first time ever — whatever she wants.

“I haven’t been writing novels or songs, or getting in a fitness kick, or the things that you are supposed to do,” Miranda told Taste of Country. “But I have been seeing my family a lot, and friends that come to the farm and hang out. I’ve gotten to have good quality time and not rushed time with people, and my animals — just being home. It’s different for me to be at home.”

Miranda and her husband, Brendan McLoughlin, have also been traveling, thanks to a new Airstream the couple bought, dubbed The Sheriff. The two have already traveled up and down the East Coast, and hope to eventually head out west.

“I wish I was more wherever the road takes us, but I’m a ‘glamper,’ so I want to plug in, have high water pressure,” Miranda maintained. “So we sat down, and we routed it out. We went to Pigeon Forge, up through Virginia, which was so beautiful, and then stopped in Pennsylvania — hit a really cool KOA in Hershey, and then we went on to New York to see family and my stepson, and then camped our way back down, but went a different route, through South Carolina to see family.

“It was definitely fun, but we definitely had it planned out pretty good,” she added. “But at the time we did all that, it was a couple of months ago, and a lot of things were still closed, so we’ve got more trips planned now that parks are open.”

Miranda and Brendan have also been spending time at home, where the former police officer gets to show off his cleaning skills.

“He loves to clean, and I knew that, but it’s really come in handy,” acknowledged the singer. “We’re home and that’s what we do. It’s the whole routine: make a meal, clean it up, make a meal, clean it up. We’ve had fun. We’re pretty much newlyweds, because we’ve only been married a year and a half, and we’ve already survived a pandemic, so I think we’re golden.”

Of course, Miranda is still working with her MuttNation charity, which just launched their first-ever line of dog and cat food, and has already won the approval of her own menagerie at home.

“It’s funny — I was pouring out my first big batch, because they’ve been testing the food for a while, and they were all lined up in the kitchen, so that made me feel good,” Miranda said. “They were into it. Plus, it’s nice to have a discount, because I have eight dogs.”

Miranda’s latest single, “Bluebird,” just hit No. 1. She wrote the song with Luke Dick and Natalie Hemby, and says the three will celebrate by getting matching bluebird tattoos.
