Miranda Lambert‘s parents are proud of their hard-working daughter, especially after her recent seven CMA Awards nominations. Rick and Bev Lambert praised Miranda for her success, which they found out about after Miranda texted them with the good news on Tuesday morning, shortly after the nominations were announced.
“You can imagine my shock when she texted the family herself, which is the first time she’s ever done that,” Bev told KTRE in their home state of Texas.
“We’re overwhelmed; to surpass all female nominations in the history of the CMA’s, that would overwhelm anyone,” she continued. “But being a small town girl from Lindale, Texas, you can imagine, it’s quite the honor.”
Miranda’s parents admit they struggled financially during the singer’s childhood — tests and trials that only helped shape the woman and artist she is today.
“We lost everything that we had,” Rick recounted. “Our family went broke and we were basically homeless when we moved to the Lindale area. We moved in with a relative for a while. It took seven years to get back on our feet. But now I look back, I think that helped build Miranda’s character. I believe that gave her some inspiration.”
The Lamberts are proud of their daughter for all of her nominations, but admit there is one that they are really, really hoping she wins, especially because she is a female artist.
“The Entertainer of the Year nomination is a huge thing for the family, Miranda, for her team,” Rick said. “This year there’s two, my daughter and Carrie Underwood. We’re really proud of that. There’s more to it than just selling tickets; it’s how you’re involved in the community, what you do with your ’other life,’ as she calls it.”
Miranda also spoke out on social media about her seven nominations, shortly after the news was announced.
Thank you from the bottom of my honky tonk heart for all of the years of support and acceptance. I love being part of the country music family. Songs and shows are what make my world go round. #countrymusic #entertainer 😱🤠💗 pic.twitter.com/IEjYclEjYm

Miranda’s seven nods also set a new record for most CMA Awards nominations by a female artist, breaking a record previously held by Reba McEntire, who has a total of 51 nods. In addition to Entertainer of the Year, Miranda is also nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year (for Wildcard), Musical Event of the Year (for “Fooled Around and Fell in Love”), and Song of the Year, Single of the Year and Video of the Year, all for “Bluebird.”
The 2020 CMA Awards will air live from Nashville on Wednesday, November 11, at 8:00 PM ET on ABC. The event will be virtual this year, due to COVID-19. Performers and a host will be announced in the near future.
