Miranda Lambert to Be Honored With The Country Icon Award

Miranda Lambert will receive another award next month, this one honoring her 20-year career. The singer-songwriter will receive The Country Icon Award at the People’s Choice Country Awards, airing live on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 8:00 PM ET on NBC and Peacock from the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.

“A tour de force in country music for more than 20 years, Miranda Lambert’s groundbreaking albums continue to capture the hearts of fans around the world,”  Jen Neal, Executive Vice President, Live Events and Specials, NBCUniversal Entertainment, says. “We’re so excited to celebrate her career, fierce individualism and innovation in the industry with the Country Icon Award.”

Lambert’s tenth studio album, Postcards From Texas, will be released on September 13. Lambert has already released her current single from the record, “Wranglers,” plus “Dammit Randy,” “Alimony” and “No Man’s Land” from the record.

Postcards From Texas is Lambert’s first project released on Republic Nashville, after leaving her longtime label home, Sony Music Nashville, in 2023.

“Music is and always will be the thing that drives me, but having a new home has given me a hunger I didn’t realize I still had inside me, Lambert said when announcing “Wranglers,” the debut single from the record. “This song feels like it could be on the same record as ‘Gunpowder & Lead’; it has that same fury. I can’t wait to get out there with this new label and this new music.”

Toby Keith was the inaugural recipient of The Country Icon Award last year. The future Country Music Hall of Fame member received the award from fellow Oklahoma native, Blake Shelton,

“I wanna thank the Almighty for allowing me to be here tonight,” Keith said when accepting the trophy. “He’s been riding shotgun with me for a little while. I want to thank my beautiful family that’s here. A lot of people go into making a big career like this, of 30 years.”

Keith passed away on February 5 from stomach cancer. His performance of “Don’t Let The Old Man In” at the People’s Choice Country Awards was his final televised performance.

Shania Twain will host this year’s ceremony.. The People’s Choice Country Awards are fan-voted. Voting is open now, and runs through Friday, Aug. 23 at 11:59 PM ET. Vote at VotePCCA.com.
