Almost everyone in Nashville knows who Kelly Sutton is, thanks to her role as a co-host on the morning talk show, Today in Nashville, along with Carole Sullivan, The media mogul, who was formerly an anchor on Fox 17’s morning news show for 12 years, can also often be found on the red carpet or covering events for One Country.
But there’s much, much more to know about the Indiana native, so Everything Nash caught up with Kelly to find out what she does when she isn’t working, and everything she loves about Music City.
1. When did you move to Nashville?
I moved here in August of 2001.
2. What was your first job in Nashville?
I came to town because I had been hired to be the co-host for the new Mornings with Ralph Emery show on Fox 17.
3. What’s the best part about living in Nashville?
The people. It’s a cliché for sure, but the people are the reason Nashville is the best city in the USA. It’s a big city now but still has a small town vibe. People are kind and creative and it feels like we are all looking out for each other. I hope that is true.
4. Where is your favorite place to eat in Nashville, and why?
Too many to name. I love Mockingbird, Mangia, Chauhan Ale and Masala House, Peg Leg Porker… I mean I could do this forever. I love these places because we have come to know the hardworking, amazing people who run them. This city is so lucky to have amazing chefs pouring into our community. AND the food is incredible.
5. If you could eat only one Nashville food for the rest of your life what would it be?
6. What’s your biggest Nashville pet peeve?
Traffic. Just like everyone else.
7. Where is your favorite vacation spot?
WALT DISNEY WORLD!!! We are die-hards.
8. Where is your favorite place to hear live music in Nashville?
Any place that is open right now. I do love 3rd and Lindsley and The Stage (lots of fun memories there).
9. What do you miss most about things being closed because of the coronavirus pandemic?
Seeing people and covering all of the amazing events that happen in Nashville. I didn’t realize how many things happen every week until nothing was happening. I miss seeing my journalist friends and country artist friends. Just all my friends. And I miss hugs.
10. What is your dream job?
I’m kind of doing it right now! I am going to start a blog soon and do more lifestyle fun things, but covering country music and all of the amazing things happening in Nashville every day on TV and online is more fun than I could have ever imagined. (AND I would love to one day be a cartoon voice and play Lady Tremaine at Disney World.)
11. What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I’m a KCBS Certified BBQ Judge. I’ve been judging BBQ for the past 15 years at competitions including The Jack Daniels Invitational.
