Nashville Newsmakers: 11 Questions With Ryan Griffin

Ryan Griffin just released his debut EP, Name On It, which features six songs that are personal to him. Still, while he may have been an open book in the tracks he chose for his freshman project, there was a lot that we didn’t know about the singer — so we asked. Read on to find out more about the country music newcomer. Spoiler alert: the last question was a SHOCKER.

1. What was the first concert you ever attended?

It was the chili cook off, down in South Florida and I think it was Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw. Alan Jackson might have been there, or that might have been the next year, but I think it was Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw. The funny thing is, Chesney was opening.

2. What is your guilty pleasure?

Bourbon.

3. Where is your favorite Nashville spot?

A place called Outlanders. It’s actually just a little bit outside of Nashville. It’s like a Southern chicken fingers and beer kind of dive.

4. What do you miss most about your home state of Florida?

The beaches. 100 percent. The beaches and family. All my family is there. I was kind of the black sheep that moved away.

5. You are on a deserted island with only one album. Which one is it?

Probably the You’ll Think of Me record by Keith Urban.

6. When were you the most starstruck?

I’ve been on tour with Old Dominion for like two years. They were sweet enough let me open for them. But there’s something about Matt Ramsey — I would consider him an acquaintance, a friend, but I still get nervous every time I talk to him. He’s so nice. He’s incredible. He always takes time out of his day to come and say hi, and spend time with me. There’s just something about him that, I don’t know if I would be starstruck, but I just, I love that dude.

7. If you weren’t a singer, what would you be?

Probably a firefighter.

8. Where is your favorite vacation spot?

St. Barts.

9. Early bird or night owl?

Night owl.

10. Intimate gathering or big party?

Intimate gathering.

11. What is one thing people don’t know about you?

I haven’t really talked about this much, but the first thing that comes to mind is, a couple of years ago, I donated one of my kidneys to my cousin. And he turned out okay, He’s doing great. He’s doing wonderful. I don’t know if I’ve ever talked about this before, but it was just felt like the right time.
