There may not be any concerts by the Nashville Symphony right now, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but music fans are still in luck. The Nashville symphony is offering several ways for fans to appreciate music, even if it is from their own home, including free virtual music lessons.
“Make no mistake, music is the universal language and it will be our duty as musicians and authorities to help all of us come out of this unforgettable crisis,” Nashville Symphony Music Director Giancarlo Guerrero said (via WSMV). “And I think at the end of this there’s going to be a great hunger. There’s going to be a great degree of desire of people to come back out and music is going to play a huge part of that.”
Giancarlo hopes that by giving music lovers a chance to connect with other like-minded people, even while social distancing, will have a far-reaching affect on their mental health.
“We look for it in difficult moments. We search for it when we’re struggling in our own lives,” Giancarlo said. “Some of them are even playing on the sidewalks for their neighbors and fortunately they had the foresight to broadcast this to the rest of the world.”
In addition to music lessons, the Nashville Symphony is also teaching people how to make their own instruments, like maracas and drums, and how to be a maestro using an uncooked piece of spaghetti. More information can be found at NashvilleSymphony.org.
