Parmalee is back at the top, again. The four-man group is celebrating their fifth No. 1 single with “Gonna Love You,” a song from their latest For You 2 album, out now.
“Having ‘Gonna Love You’ go No. 1 is special in so many ways,” the band says. “We took a shot with a song completely different from the previous three (we released), and it really connected. Also, this was the song we needed to help tell our story and ultimately film the music video. As difficult as it was on the video set, it was a way to move on, and now we can all celebrate this song and how far we’ve come.”
The video for “Gonna Love You” tells the harrowing story of the armed robbery Parmalee survived in 2010, leaving one of the assailants dead, and Scott Thomas, brother of lead singer Matt Thomas, severely wounded. Scott spent several weeks in the hospital, ten of which were in a coma, and endured a long and arduous road to recovery.
“I walked up to him, and a gunfight ensued,” Scott recalled to CMT. “He was shooting at me, and then I was shooting, trying to get both guys.”
When the shooting occurred, Parmalee had yet to have a hit single at radio, At the time, the band thought their days together might be over, before their career even really began.
“I mean, it’s the end of the world,” Scott thought at the time. “We’re never going to play again. I might not be able to walk again. I might not even live. So that just tells you how things can turn around.”
“That is our story,” he added. “That’s the story you’re hearing — what we’ve been through and sticking it out. Same four guys, too, not nobody else in the band.”
The video concludes with actual footage of Scott in the hospital, a true miracle that he survived.
“That night, the doctors told Matt, Barry and Josh that Scott had a five percent chance of living,” Parmalee shares at the end of the video. “Scott spent ten days in a coma, had three life saving surgeries, and spent 40 days in the hospital with the band by his side. Four months later Parmalee made it back to Nashville and got a record deal.”
“Gonna Love You” is Parmalee’s fourth consecutive No. 1 single. As they head into 2025, the group is eager to share more music with their fans, and spend a lot of time playing in front of a live crowd as well, with their Fell In Love With A Cowgirl Tour, kicking off on February 13. The new tour comes after Parmalee spent part of 2024 opening for Kane Brown i on his In The Air Tour.
“With new music coming early next year, there is energy and excitement around us and our whole team,” Matt says. “We wanted to bring that energy to our fans as soon as we could, so we decided to do a headline tour starting in February 2025. We’ll bring the party back to some of the cities we played on the Kane Brown tour as well as some cities we’ve never been to. Can’t wait to kick off 2025 with the Parmlee Famalee.”
Avery Anna will serve as the opening act on the Fell In Love With A Cowgirl Tour. Find all of Parmalee’s music and tour dates at ParmaleeMusic.com.
