Kane Brown is the latest recipient of The Country Champion Award at the People’s Choice Country Awards. The singer-songwriter was given the honor, not just for his successful music career, but for his philanthropy and generosity over the years, especially with the Boys and Girls Club.
“I’m always terrible at this thing. My publicist told me what to say, and I forgot already,” Brown joked when he took the stage. “I just want to say, I always look down on myself. Every day. I always look down on myself. I never think I should be on this stage, so I just want to say, for any kid that’s watching, anybody that has a dream, anybody that wants to give back … there’s a lot of people that need your help, and a lot of people that keep their head up and they don’t help anybody out, even though they can. Dreams, helping people out, and don’t listen to people who say no, or tell you no when you’re trying to do something, that’s all it’s about.”
The father of three also thanked his wife, Katelyn, who was in the audience during his speech.
“I want to thank my wife, of course, because I feel like I always forget to do that,” Brown said. “You’re amazing. I love you. She holds our house down. Thanks to all the fans. The fans are what help me be up here. I never get to thank you guys, so God bless you. And I know my babies are home watching, so I just want to say that I love you guys, and I can’t wait to be home to you all in a little bit.”
Earlier this year, Brown received the CRS Artist Humanitarian Award, also in acknowledgement of his philanthropy.
“My dad’s been in prison since 1996,” Brown said when accepting that award. “My mom was a single mom working and raising two kids, trying to work multiple jobs. I never knew anything about money growing up, but now that I’m older, and realize what she was making back in the day, I don’t even know how we really survived. Sports was a huge thing for me after school, to stay out of trouble. My little brother went down a different path. So once I found out about the Boys and Girls Club, I just wished that I would’ve been part of the community.”
Brown was just announced as one of the headliners, along with Jelly Roll, for this year’s New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash. Find all of Brown’s music and upcoming shows at KaneBrownMusic.com.
