Randy Travis Announces Ryman Auditorium Show

Randy Travis is returning to the Ryman Auditorium. The Country Music Hall of Fame member will celebrate his legendary career with a show on June 5, as part of his More Life Tour, with singer James Dupré, backed by Travis’ original touring band, performing all 16 of Travis’ No. 1 hits, including “On The Other Hand,” “Forever and Ever, Amen,” “Three Wooden Crosses” and more.

In 2013, Travis had a stroke that resulted in the loss of his ability to speak clearly, and to sing. Although he will not be able to perform, Travis and his wife, Mary, will take the stage during the show, which will also include video highlights of Travis’ career.

The news comes as Travis just released his first single in more than a decade, with “Where That Came From.” The song was recorded with the help of AI, and Dupré.

“Celebrating this moment reminds me of how fortunate I am to have new ways of sharing a voice missed by so many of you,” Travis says. “I am thankful to have endless support from my family, friends, and fans. The ability to share new music in ways never thought possible is the gift of a lifetime, and I am eternally grateful.”

It was Warner Music Nashville’s co-president, Cris Lacy, who had the idea to use AI to help Travis create music again.

“It’s Randy Travis,” Lacy insisted to CBS News. “Randy’s on the other side of the microphone. It’s still his vocal. There’s no reason he shouldn’t be able to make music, and to deprive him of that, if he still wants to do that, that’s unconscionable to me.”

Mary still recalls how Travis felt when he heard his voice on a brand-new song, for the first time in over a decade.

“Randy, I remember watching him when he first heard the song after it was completed,” she told the Associated Press. “It was beautiful because at first, he was surprised, and then he was very pensive, and he was listening and studying. And then he put his head down and his eyes were a little watery. I think he went through every emotion there was, in those three minutes of just hearing his voice again.”

Travis will present at the 2024 ACM Awards, along with AlabamaBRELANDJordan DavisSara EvansLittle Big TownAshley McBryde and Clay Walker, among others. He will also appear at both CMA Fest in June, and has been announced as part of the inaugural Kickoff Jam in Panama City Beach in September, along with  Carrie UnderwoodGarth Brooks, Lauren Alaina, the Oak Ridge BoysRestless RoadJamey JohnsonPam Tillis and more.
