Randy Travis came out with his revealing autobiography, Forever and Ever, Amen: A Memoir of Music, Faith and Braving the Storms of Life last year, sharing previously untold stories of some of the darkest days of his life and career, along with plenty of milestones as well. The Grand Ole Opry member bared his heart and soul in Forever and Ever, Amen, and it seems his honesty paid off. The publication was just named the Best Country Music Book of All Time, according to Book Authority.
Forever and Ever, Amen was co-written by best-selling author, Ken Abraham, who humbly insists the work was all Randy.
“Working with Randy Travis and his wife Mary to help write Randy’s story was one of the most satisfying experiences of my writing career,” Ken told Everything Nash. “I couldn’t have done it without the help of so many country music icons such as producers, Kyle Lehning and Keith Stegall; songwriters, Paul Overstreet and Don Schlitz; management, publishers, and record company personnel such as Jeff Davis, Tony Conway, Charlie Monk, Bill Mayne, Martha Sharp, Jim Ed Norman, and Neal Spielberg; media heroes such as Ralph Emery and Bill Cody, as well as members of Randy’s family, friends, band, and crew.
“This story and this honor truly belong to them,” he added. “I simply put the nouns and verbs in the right order.”
Randy Travis’ wife, Mary, helped tell his story as well. The couple wed while Randy was still recovering from his 2013 battle with viral cardiomyopathy, which resulted in a massive stroke three days later.
“It’s good to have this story out there,” Mary previously told PopCulture.com. “There’s lots of questions that people wanted answered. I feel like the book does that. It was exhausting going through the writing of it. Just emotionally and spiritually and physically, as Ken will tell you. But Ken made a daunting task very tolerable.
“We laughed a lot,” she continued. “We cried a lot. We spent a lot of time on the phone, in person, going through articles and magazines and pictures, and just re-creating the life of Randy Travis. That’s a challenge, because he had such a life and lived it in full color.”
