Rascal Flatts have a hit single at radio with “I Dare You.” The song, a collaboration with the Jonas Brothers, is the first single form Rascal Flatts’ forthcoming Life Is A Highway: Refueled Duets record, out on June 6.
All of the other songs on Life Is A Highway: Refueled Duets are new versions of some of Rascal Flatts’ biggest hits. “I Dare You” is the only new song on the record, and with good reason.
“We were putting this record together, and one of the people we reached out to were the Jonas Brothers, about doing one of our songs,” Jay DeMarcus recalls to their record label. “And they said they were thrilled that we asked, but instead of doing one of our songs, they had written a song recently with Shay Mooney that they wanted to throw in the hat. And I loved the song when I first heard it. It seemed to fit what we do and it’s a really great collaboration.”
“I Dare You” is the first new single that Rascal Flatts has released in eight years, since “How They Remember You” came out in 2020. The song was written by Jonas Brothers’ Nick Jonas, plus Mooney, Dewain Whitmore Jr., and Tommy English.
For Rascal Flatts, it was a fitting way to introduce their exciting new musical chapter.

“We’re so excited to kick off this next chapter of Rascal Flatts with this single, working with Kevin, Joe and Nick is such a blast. They’re class acts,” Jay DeMarcus says of the song. “I think this song fits perfectly into our catalog while also showing off something new and exciting, and we can’t wait to share it with our fans on the road!”
The feel-good anthem also has a storyline that all of the Rascal Flatts members liked, which is why they released the song first.
“It’s about a girl who’s really protecting her heart, and not really sure if she wants to jump into this relationship with this guy,” lead singer Gary LeVox tells iHeartCountry. “Basically, he’s just begging going, ‘Hey, give me a chance. Let me love you. Let me be the one to take that leap of faith.’”
Other artists joining Rascal Flatts on Life Is A Highway: Refueled Duets, include Jason Aldean, Carly Pearce, Blake Shelton, the Backstreet Boys, Kelly Clarkson and more.
“It was such an honor to create this project with such incredibly talented artists,” LeVox says. “It’s a pretty indescribable feeling having your colleagues and friends do your songs in such unique ways and knock your socks off with the results.
