Rascal Flatts’ Gary LeVox Hints the Trio Might Still Make More Music

There’s a glimmer of hope that Rascal Flatts may not be finished after all. The trio’s lead singer, Gary LeVox, reveals that the group, which also includes Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney, might have more music in them, now that they’ve unexpectedly had time off the road.

“Joe Don really wanted to be home,” Gary told BRELAND on a recent episode of Land of the BRE Radio on Apple Music Country. “He was like, ‘Man, we’ve toured for 20 some years. I just really want to be home.’ And I was like, ‘All right. Well, I’m not done.’ I mean, I feel this is what I’ve been called to do. So we were kind of in a phase like, ‘All right, well, do you want to go and cut out new music? What are we doing?’ And then the COVID thing hit, and we had the song ‘How They Remember You,’ which is our current single. It’s out right now.

“It had a different meaning then, and then after the COVID thing, so many people were dying,” he continued. “So it took on a whole new meaning, the song did. Now at this point, it was kind of like we were robbed of our farewell tour. And I mean, I’m always going to make music. It’s given us time to do some of our own personal individual stuff. I’m sure at some point we’ll probably do something again, but for now who knows what the touring thing and whatever, so. And I think Joe Don being home a year, that’s what he wanted. He may be ready to go back to work. I don’t know, but I’m going to… I’m just focused on my solo stuff and we’ll see what happens with Flatts down the line.”

Gary already revealed he is working on both a solo Christian album and a solo country album, where he is eager to share the songs he wants to sing.

“I think all the best songs come from real life and true stories,” Gary said. “Life’s always changing. It’s just such a journey. I just see things that I want to sing about and talk about. I mean, I sing all the time, no matter what it is, I just always sing. So, I feel like that’s been my calling. You don’t really know what you got till it’s gone, but I miss being on stage. I miss meet and greets, I miss standing in front of 30,000 people every single night. That feeling, it’s like skydiving every single day. You just miss that.

“There’s a kid you got standing there with that comb and sing in that mirror and picture all of it, and then you’re getting to live your dream,” he added. “There’s just nothing like hearing all those songs sung back to you that you crafted and created.”

Rascal Flatts has yet to announce if they will tour in 2021. Their How They Remember You EP is available for purchase at RascalFlatts.com.
