As Rascal Flatts wind down on a successful 20 years in country music, lead singer Gary LeVox is reflecting on their numerous achievements. Although they’ve won plenty of awards, and earned more than 30 Top 10 singles, their greatest accomplishment has nothing to do with career success or accolades.
“Some of the biggest accomplishments over the last 20 years for me, I guess one probably would be being a member of the Grand Ole Opry. But most of all probably our work that we did for the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt,” Gary said in a video posted on social media. “Every child that has to have surgery at Vanderbilt, they have it done in the Rascal Flatts Surgery Center, and that’s just a legacy that will live on forever, and I’m so proud of that.
“I think of just being able to make music, our star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame — being able to live out my dreams in country music is just a great, great gift,” he added.
The trio planned on being on their farewell Life is a Highway Tour this year, which of course had to be canceled because of COVID-19. The Flatts have yet to announce if the tour will resume in 2021 or not, partly because they are still unsure what next year will look like for them.
“I don’t know what the tour is gonna look like. We don’t know when it’s gonna happen. I don’t even know if it’s gonna be a farewell tour,” Jay DeMarcus said (via Country Now). “Who knows what’s going to happen? I just know that we’re waiting to see. I’m not saying it’s not going to be, but we’re waiting.”
Rascal Flatts, which also includes Joe Don Rooney, may not have announced what their plans are for next year, but they do say they want to perform for their fans at least one more time.
“We don’t wanna leave people hanging and just go away,” Jay shared. “We certainly want to go out and celebrate with them. As to when and how that’s gonna happen, we simply don’t know yet. But we’re really, really focused right now on what the next steps are gonna be as far as getting back on the road and getting in front of the fans and not only celebrating… [an] incredible 20 years with them, but also giving them a chance to see us for what may be one of the last times we’re around.”
