Rascal Flatts‘ Gary LeVox is sharing new details on his upcoming Christian album. The lead singer recently revealed the record was already in progress, which he planned on finishing in addition to working on a solo country album.
“I’m so excited; more excited than I’ve been in a long time,” Gary gushed in a recent episode of Bobby Bones’ podcast, Bobbycast (via Sounds Like Nashville). “I love everything that we did with Flatts and being a part of that, and who knows what will happen in the future, but I’m so excited about just having my own songs that I handpicked and helped co-produce. It’s just fresh, it’s new, it’s exciting, and singing about the Lord is going to be awesome. It’s been a dream record since I was a kid.”
Gary recalls a conversation he had with God, while working a day job, when he realized he wasn’t doing what he was called to do.
“I was sitting in my mom’s kitchen and I was singing along with the radio, and it just hit me,” Gary recounted. “At that moment, I just kind of looked up and I said, ‘God, I feel like you’ve given me some type of gift to sing and I’m so sorry that I haven’t used it.’ It was just the weirdest thing, and I was like, ‘I’m going to do it.’”
Gary also said during his talk with Bobby that part of his desire to work on solo projects is so he can record songs he believes in, even if his fellow Rascal Flatts bandmates, Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney, don’t necessarily agree.
“There are songs that I truly believe in and that I love that I think are giants — that I think the world needs to hear,” Gary said. “I’m excited about doing my own thing and I’m excited about what happens if the Flatts get together at some point when everything clears up. I don’t know.”
Rascal Flatts just dropped a new song, “Quick, Fast, In a Hurry” with Rachel Wammack. The song is from their upcoming EP, How They Remember You EP, out on July 31.
