Reba McEntire has so much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, including her health. The 69-year-old realizes how fortunate she is, not just at Thanksgiving but throughout the year, which is why she wants to give back however she can.
“I wake up in the morning grateful that I can, that I’m alive,” McEntire reveals. “I can breathe, I can move, I can get out of bed on my own. [I’m] very grateful for the lifestyle that I have, and if anybody needs help, please Lord please, direct me in what you want me to do.”
McEntire also is thankful for Rex Linn, her boyfriend since early 2020, and her co-star in her hit sitcom, Happy’s Place.
“[I’m] just grateful for getting Rex in my life, my family being healthy and happy, my friends being healthy and happy,” says the singer. “I’ve got a great job and people I love and get to work with, and I’ve got a huge faith. So, no matter what happens to me, I know where I’m going, so I’m a happy camper.”
Not many couples would enjoy spending time together at their job, and then going home together, but McEntire and Linn aren’t most couples. In fact, McEntire says a highlight for her is spending so much time with Linn while working on Happy’s Place together, which is why she hand-picked him to star with her on the NBC TV show.
“When we were working on this, they said, ‘We’re going to have a short-order cook,’ and I said, ‘That’s gotta be Rex,’” McEntire reveals on the Today Show. “We have a blast. I love it. He brings me into work. He drives us to work and then takes us home, and he’s my rehearsal coach, so I rehearse a lot.”
Even McEntire can’t believe how well she and Linn get along, which is why she loves spending as much time as possible with him.
“Rex and I are best friends,” McEntire boasts to Us Weekly. “We have the same likes and dislikes. We’re foodies. We love to cook. We each wanted to be a cowboy and a cowgirl. Then we got into the entertainment business instead. Our dynamic works on and off-screen.”
The Grand Ole Opry member is also thankful that she returned this fall for her third season as a coach on The Voice, where she is beloved among the fellow coaches, crew and contestants.
“It’s like they know me, and that just makes me feel great,” McEntire says, speaking of her popularity on the reality TV talent show. “I’ve loved it. I really have. This is my third season, and getting to hang out with Gwen [Stefani], I just love Gwen, she’s just perfect and so funny.”
