Reba McEntire’s ‘Happy’s Place’ Picked Up As a Series by NBC

Reba McEntire‘s new NBC sitcom, Happy’s Place, is becoming a series! The 69-year-old previously revealed that she had filmed the pilot for the show, which stars her former Reba co-star, Melissa Peterman, as well as her boyfriend, Rex Linn. But now, McEntire confirms that the network has approved Happy’s Place for an entire first season.

McEntire shared the good news on social media, shortly after receiving word of the decision.

“#ICant think of a better way to end the day…a new single and now a new sitcom,” McEntire wrote, using the hashtag to also indicate the name of her new single, “I Can’t,” out now. “We’ll see you at #HappysPlace on NBC soon!”

McEntire debuted “I Can’t” on The Voice, where she is serving her second season as a coach. She also reveals she will sing the theme song for Happy’s Place, which she is already working on completing.

“Definitely. I’ll be singing the theme song,” McEntire tells People. “We’ve started working on it, and we’ll have it soon finished.”

McEntire not only brought Peterman, but several of her other former co-workers from the Reba show.

“It’s the same showrunners, same writers and same producers as the Reba show,” McEntire tells Entertainment Tonight. “So it’s going to be that heartfelt, fun, funny, laugh at our silliness, but also be touched by the heart in the show. That’s what I really loved about Reba. Remember when you would watch Andy Griffith, and he always would have a lesson, about how he dealt with something that Opie was going through? So that’s what we were really looking forward to doing every episode on the Reba show, and now Happy’s Place.”

In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Country Music Hall of Fame member said being able to film Happy’s Place is a dream come true.

“We have been working on trying to get another show since we were canceled on the Reba show,” McEntire shares. “We got to do Malibu Country for one season. We’ve got the same producers, same show runners, same writers, and now we’re back with Melissa Peterman and Rex Linn, my boyfriend, and wonderful, wonderful cast and crew. We had such a good time doing the pilot, we can’t wait to go back.”

Before learning her lines for Happy’s Place, McEntire is rehearsing for her upcoming gig as the host of ACM Awards, a role she has done 16 times before.

“In a way, it seems like 100 years, and in a way, it seems like it just flew by like that,” McEntire says. “Great memories getting to work with Dick Clark, all of the artists, the people that I co-hosted with, back to John Schneider and Mac Davis, George Strait, Randy Owen from Alabama … lots of fun.”

McEntire will perform “I Can’t” during the live broadcast. The ceremony will air live on Thursday, May 16, from the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, and stream live exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. A very limited number of tickets for the general public are available now, via SeatGeek. More information is available at ACMCountry.com.
