Runaway June‘s Jennifer Wayne is a married woman! The singer and songwriter tied the knot with fellow musician Austin Moody, only two weeks after announcing her engagement. Wayne shared the good news on social media.
“I got to marry my favorite person in the world last night… [Austin Moody],” Wayne posted on Instagram. “My forever now.”
Wayne spoke to People about their ceremony, which was very small because of the ongoing pandemic. The wedding took place on at Santa Rosa Beach, with less than 20 guests, although the couple plans on having a larger celebration in Nashville in the future.
“We are taking COVID very seriously and have requested that all of the guests receive a recent COVID test before attending,” the couple said in a joint statement. “We are having the ceremony outdoors with plenty of room to social distance.”
Wayne is the granddaughter of famed film star John Wayne, who passed away in 1979, although his presence was still felt during the wedding. Wayne’s “something borrowed” was her grandmother Pilar Pallet’s engagement ring, which was used for her own ring.
“On their 10th anniversary, he matched the diamond and had it reset in a flower setting,” Wayne said. “Austin used his grandmother’s diamonds to create an engagement ring for me [made with help from my best friend’s mom, Dobrila Pintar,] in the flower setting as well. So, I bought all of the ladies in the wedding birth month flower earrings from Local Eclectic to keep the theme.”
Wayne and Moody first met five years ago, at Ocean Way Studios in Nashville, but didn’t make a strong connection until last year, thanks to new Runaway June member, Natalie Stovall. Moody returned to Ocean Way Studios to propose, which Wayne also posted on Instagram, along with a photo of her stunning ring.
“Austin found a dog that had been left on the freeway,” Wayne said. “He knew Natalie, and he knew she loved dogs. So, he sent the picture of the dog to Natalie, and Natalie said, ‘Oh, Jen saves dogs … we need to send to Jen.’ The rest is history!”
The couple enjoyed a pre-honeymoon in Aspen, Colorado, and plan on returning there for a longer honeymoon in the future. Runaway June’s current single, “We Were Rich,” is at radio now. Moody is also releasing new music in 2021, from his self-titled album, released last year.
