Sam Hunt Feels a Personal Connection to Memorial Day Celebrations

Sam Hunt has never served in the military, but he still feels an incredibly personal connection to Memorial Day celebrations, thanks to his grandfather, who instilled in him a love of all things patriotic.

“My granddad was in World World II,” Sam shared with his record label. “He was on the USS Texas battleship, and he was over at Normandy and over near Japan. He spent a lot of time right in the thick of World War II. He really took pride in what that meant, and it was something I got to see it first hand, as somebody who got to experience that; somebody who had that galvanized American trait. It’s hard to describe it.

“It was just somebody who’s been through that, seen that and really appreciates what that means,” he continued. “I try to channel that into my life, because I haven’t fought in any war, but I have a ton of respect for folks who have, folks who’ve sacrificed, families who’ve lost lives and just sacrificed years of their own lives and time and effort to maintain those freedoms.”

Sam just released his sophomore album, Southside, last month. He intended to hit the road later this month, on his Southside Summer 2020 Tour, with Kip Moore and Travis Denning serving as his opening acts. After initially postponing the shows, Sam made the decision to cancel the tour entirely.

“The Southside Summer 2020 Tour will unfortunately no longer be taking place,” Sam announced in a statement, via CID Entertainment. “Thank you for understanding that this decision was made in the best interest of the health and safety of our fans and touring family. Can’t wait to get back out on tour as soon as possible.”

Sam is spending his time off the road in a cabin with his wife, Hannah.

“We’re doing well,” Sam insisted. “We’re stocked up on groceries and supplies and we live south of town. We just moved into a little cabin out in the woods about five months ago, so we’re getting some time in the new place, getting to know it a little bit. There’s some woods behind the house we can go and walk in, and we’re doing that now after we binged out on Netflix and Youtube, and got some dogs.

“I’ve got a little bird dog puppy,” he added. “I’ll get out in the yard, trying to train, so I’ll mess with him a little bit. Getting to spend some time around the house, taking it easy, but I’m hoping this thing passes sooner than later.”
