Scotty McCreery is officially a father! The American Idol alum and his wife, Gabi, welcomed their first child, son Merrick Avery McCreery, into the world on Monday, October 24, at 4:34 AM ET, weighing seven pounds, 13 ounces, and measuring 21 inches long.
The baby is named after Gabi’s father, Merrick (Tre) Dugal III, and will be called Avery.
“Next to his mother, he is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen,” McCreery says. “We have been waiting and preparing all year, and now we are so excited to have our little man here with us. We have begun a grand new adventure that will continue for the rest of our lives.”
“Gabi was a total rock star during Avery’s birth. I could not be more proud of her,” he added. “She has already taken to motherhood like a champ. Part of my joy as his Dad is watching Gabi already crush it as his Mom.”
McCreery also shared the exciting news on social media, along with a few photos of the newborn.

McCreery previously said he was eager to become a family of three, and to embrace his role as a parent.
“It’s going to be the biggest blessing,” McCreery said. “I can’t wait to teach this kid things. Get him on the ball field, play him some music, teach him guitar. We’ve already got a little music stand for him to play with. So yeah, we’re pumped.”
As excited as McCreery was to become a dad, he was even more eager to watch Gabi, a pediatric nurse, thrive in her role as a mother.
“Just how caring and thoughtful she is — she puts everybody’s needs in front of her own,” her proud husband boasted. “She’s just going to be the best mom.”
In fact, the 29-year-old said he would rely on her to calm his nerves, especially since she had much more experience with babies than he does.
“She’s seen all really tough stuff. So now she’s thinking of everything that can go wrong,’ McCreery shared with Everything Nash and other media outlets. “Everything’s gonna be great, and I’ll be the one asking for help … She’s going to be awesome. And she’s got the experience behind her. I can’t wait.”
McCreery has also been enjoying a new career high, after his multi-week, No. 1 hit with his “Damn Strait.” The success has only propelled him to work harder than ever before.
“The crowds are bigger, they’re more energetic,” McCreery People.“This has probably been the best summer we’ve had as far as headlining shows. As soon as we tease ‘Damn Strait’ with the music, everybody’s up. Their phones are going up. They’re smiling. They’re elbowing their neighbors. It’s been pretty cool.”
