Scotty McCreery Announces ‘Fall of Summer’ As His New Single

Fresh off his sixth No. 1 hit with “Cab In A Solo,” Scotty McCreery is back with a brand-new song. The American Idol.alum has dropped “Fall of Summer” as his next single. Both “Cab In A Solo” and “Fall of Summer” are from McCreery’s latest Rise and Fall album, out now.

McCreery co-wrote all but one song on Rise and Fall, with this one also written by Brent Anderson, Derek George, Frank Rogers and Monty Criswell. Although the album wasn’t named after the song, it’s “Fall of Summer” that inspired the record’s title.

“Every album until this one, I’ve just picked a song title that I thought represented kind of where we’re at or the lead single,” McCreery said at a media event celebrating the release of Rise and Fall. “But this one, something felt different, and I didn’t think there was a song title that totally captured the feeling that I had for the whole project. And I’m old school; I know it’s a single-driven world nowadays, but I want my album to tell a story, start to finish.

“I want it to be a cohesive unit,” he added. “And I didn’t feel like there was one title that did that. So I was just listening down to the songs, probably on a plane to California or something. I was listening to ‘Fall of Summer’ and I heard, ‘Here’s to the rise and fall of summer,’ and I thought, ‘Rise and Fall.'”

McCreery, who has been vocal about the ups and downs of his journey, from winning Idol to losing his record deal, realized that Rise and Fall was the perfect title, and a way to capture his journey so far.

“I started about as high as you can start,” McCreery said. “And then, I went about as low as you can get. And I think I learned more in that down period where things were not going good, than I did during any of the number ones or any of the good times. So I feel like I couldn’t have made this record without the fall. It’s nice to not be there anymore, but I will say the rise and fall, it just couldn’t have made the record without both of those things.”

“Fall of Summer” and “Cab In A Solo” are just two of 13 songs that McCreery poured all of himself into, a record he is rightfully proud to have out for the world to hear.

“I do think there’s a song on there for everybody,” McCreery boasted. “My previous records used to be so autobiographical. They were autobiographical. And this one, there’s a couple of those songs on there, but I really feel like there are songs for different seasons of life, and different times. Your party songs, your serious songs, your love songs, your heartbreak songs. We got a little taste of everything on there.”

The 30-year-old has managed to stay consistent in who he is as an artist with all of his albums, but with Rise and Fall, McCreery put his proverbial flag in country music about the kind of music he would — and would not — make.

“I just think for me, I’m at a place where I wasn’t going to make a record chasing trends, or chasing the top of the charts, or what sound is selling more tickets on the road,” McCreery explained.  “I just want to make an album that feels good to me, feels good to my soul, touches on influences that I had growing up. I really think we did that on this record. To me, it’s the most ‘me’ record, and the most proud I’ve been of a record yet.”

“Every song has a story,” he added. “Every song is one I’m passionate about.”
