The third time is a charm for Scotty McCreery! The 26-year-old just celebrated his third consecutive No. 1 hit, with “In Between.” The song follows “Five More Minutes” and “This Is It,” both from his 2018 Seasons Change record. Scotty wrote the song with Frank Rogers, Jessi Alexander and Jonathan Singleton.
“Earning a No.1 record on ‘In Between,’ which is a song that defines me, is amazing. I loved writing this song with Frank, Jessi and Jonathan and telling my story,” Scotty said in a statement. “Earning three No.1 songs in a row is the perfect way to celebrate Seasons Change and how that album changed my life. I want to thank country radio for supporting my music, my fans for believing in me from day one, and both my management team Triple 8 Management and my record label Triple Tigers Records for always having my back and working side by side with me every day.”
Scotty wrote “In Between” based at least in part on his own life experiences, at least so far.
“Everyone’s not all one thing or all the other. We all have many facets to our lives and different things we enjoy. It’s about knowing who you are and finding what’s right for you,” Scotty explained. “I wrote ‘In Between’ about really finding that balance and being happy with it.”
Ironically, the American Idol alum wrote “In Between,” which says in part, “I’m a far cry from being / A one night stand / But I ain’t ready / For a ring on my hand,” during the same writing session that he wrote the tender “Five More Minutes,” about his late grandfather. Scotty wrote a lot of songs during that boot camp, but definitely not “This Is It,” which is the song he used to propose to his now-wife, Gabi.
“I was doing like a boot camp in Nashville, songwriting. Two songs a day for two weeks in a row. We wrote ‘In Between’ seven days after ‘Five More Minutes.’ There were a lot of songs being written during that time,” Scotty revealed on the Bobby Bones Show. “I’m not going to write a song about not being ready to put a ring on my hand two weeks before I propose to my wife.”
Scotty is off the road right now, because of COVID-19. The North Carolina native is working on new music, and getting used to living life off of the bus.
“I would say I’ve gotten a little bit better through quarantine, because I’ve just been home more, and I think I’m learning more home etiquette,” Scotty admitted. “Home etiquette and bus etiquette are two totally different things, I would say.”
