Scotty McCreery just made a very generous donation. The singer-songwriter heard about an 11-year-old boy named Liam Rade, who set up a lemonade stand in his Southern California neighborhood every weekend, to raise money to purchase his own dirt bike. Unfortunately, someone stole his stand, which prompted local radio station KSON to launch what they called “The World’s Largest Lemonade Stand” to help Rade raise money to purchase his own dirt bike.
McCreery heard about the fundraiser, and called in to make an unexpected offer.
“I like to think that there’s a lot of great people out there, but every now and then you hear something that does stink,” McCreery said to Audacy’s 103.7 KSON radio station. “I wanted to call in and offer a little bit of something that I could. If y’all don’t mind, I’d love to contribute a little something.”
“Every kid needs to have fun out there, and I loved dirt bikes when I was a kid, so I’d love to contribute a dirt bike, if that’s okay with y’all,” he continued. “I like other people to feel good, and I don’t like to see any frowns on kids’ faces or anything like that, so this is the least we could do after we heard about this … Thank y’all for jumping on this and doing good in the community. That’s what it’s all about.”
The American Idol alum is currently on his Fall of Summer Tour, which will wrap up in early December. He recently announced he was embarking on his own UK Tour as well, in 2025.
“It’s been too long and I cannot wait to come back to the UK,” McCreery said of the overseas tour dates. “We’ve had so many e-mails and social media posts from fans asking us to return, and I’m happy to say ‘we’re coming!’ I’ve never been to Belfast or Birmingham before, and I am looking forward to visiting those cities. I’ve only been to Glasgow as part of C2C a few years ago, so I’m excited to come on my own. And the band and I had a blast the last time we were in London and Manchester, so I knew we had to come back there. It’s always special to come and perform in the UK!”
In addition to his current “Fall of Summer” single, McCreery has another song out now, his “Gettin’ Old” duet with Callista Clark. It was while she was opening for him on another UK tour when McCreery fell in love with her magical voice.
“I first met Callista on a UK tour we did together a few years ago,” McCreery said at a recent media event. “She was opening the shows for us. I was just blown away by her songwriting and her stage presence, and her voice is just ridiculous. The runs she can do, I think I would fall over if I tried to do what she does with her voice. She’s so talented and has something she wants to share with the world.
“So when she sent the song over, I fell in love with it, and was just honored that she wanted me to sing on it,” he added. “So I’m excited for folks to hear it. It’s a great song. She wrote one heck of a song, and I’m excited for people to hear it.”
