Scotty McCreery is being recognized not for his vocal ability, but for his songwriting. The 30-year-old earned a spot on MusicRow magazine’s Top 100 songwriters of 2023, joining an elite list that includes Morgan Wallen, HARDY, Thomas Rhett, Shane McAnally and more.
“Thanks MusicRow magazine for ranking me #61 on your Top 100 Songwriters of 2023 list,” McCreery shared on social media. “Nice to be there with Rhett Akins (#62) and Lee Thomas Miller (#84), who were my co-writers on ‘It Matters to Her.'”

McCreery has a hit single at radio now, with “Cab In A Solo.” The song, written by McCreery along with Frank Rogers and Brent Anderson, is from his next album.
“Took some buddies up to the mountains of North Carolina to do nothing but write some country music,” McCreery said when the song was released. “I’m proud to say one of those songs turned out to be one of my favorite I’ve ever written.”
The American Idol alum just teased another song, “Can’t Pass the Bar,” out on Friday, January 12. The song is part of an eclectic new record that will showcase even more of his writing skills.
“I think what I’ve found that works for me and what I like doing is pretty autobiographical stuff and writing about life,” McCreery said on Audacy’s Katie & Company. “So there will obviously be baby songs on this record, but there will be other stuff too. It’s country. Our steel guitar player, Mike Johnson, was in the studio with us, and he’s like, ‘Man, I actually get to play country music this week!’ He was loving it, and I love singing that stuff, so hopefully folks are ready for a little dose of country music.”
Of course, McCreery has a lot to look forward to besides new music in 2024. The singer-songwriter will become the next member of the Grand Ole Opry later this year, after being surprised by Garth Brooks with an invitation to join in December.
“I’ll do it all,” McCreery told radio station 94-7 WQDR. “Whatever they’d like me to do. It’s really just an honor to be up there, and be a member. A lot of my heroes are members there, and played that stage. I’ll be there as much as I can, and parade that around the country, and invite folks out … I’ll be there for the rest of my life.”
Zach Bryan topped MusicRow’s list of Top 100 Songwriters of 2023, followed by Ashley Gorley, Ryan Vojtesak, Wallen and Tracy Chapman. See the complete list here.
McCreery will embark on his Cab In A Solo Tour on January 26 in Troy, Ohio. Find all of his music and upcoming shows at ScottyMcCreery.com.
