Scotty McCreery is celebrating five consecutive No. 1 hits, with his multi-week “Damn Strait” single. For someone who dreamed of having any kind of success in country music, having five chart-topping singles in a row is more than he once even dreamed possible.
“I’m still kind of processing it, I think,” McCreery admitted to Everything Nash and other outlets, at a media event celebrating the success of “Damn Strait.” “To me, it still feels like yesterday that my biggest goal was, and I said this all the time, ‘I just want to get one song to the top of the charts in country music.’ Because in my mind, that’s when you know you’ve made it, when you have a song on country radio that’s really made it to the top. But to have five in a row is just bananas to me. I don’t take it lightly. We’re celebrating. We’re grateful, and just having so much fun.”
Not only did “Damn Strait” become McCreery’s fifth No. 1 hit, but it also stayed at the top of the charts for three weeks, a rare accomplishment for any artist.
“Can’t tell y’all how unreal it is to say ‘Damn Strait’ has been the No. 1 song in the USA for 3 weeks!!!,” McCreery said on Instagram. “This has been the most fun I’ve ever had with a song on the radio. Not even close. An ode to the King, and a classic country heartbreak song. Cmon man! As much fun as it is to sing, it’s even more fun hearing you fans scream it back to me every night! Thank you country radio, thank you to my team, and thank you to the FANS!!! Let’s gooo!!!!”
McCreery is back with another song, “It Matters To Her,” which along with “Damn Strait” and his previous single, “You Time,” is from his 2021 Same Truck album. The song shows how much influence Brooks & Dunn had on his life and his music.
“The coolest one for me is our next single, ‘It Matters To Her,” which, if you listen to it, speaking of Brooks & Dunn, it definitely has that inspiration to it,” McCreery told Audacy‘s Katie Neal. “And how could you not when I grew up listening to all their albums? This is the [song] where you start playing it and you see the crowd start trying to sing along like they already knew it, but then they realize like ‘Oh, I don’t know this song.’”
McCreery will celebrate the success of “Damn Strait” with a special show at Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, Texas, where Strait’s career began. The show will take place on September 23. Find all of McCreery’s music and tour dates by visiting his website.
