It’s fitting that McCreery is taking part in Opry 100: A Live Celebration, since he is a proud Grand Ole Opry member. McCreery was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry almost one year ago, on April 20, 2024, by Josh Turner. It was Garth Brooks who invited McCreery to become a member.

“This is something I’ve dreamed of since I was a kid,” McCreery said ahead of his induction. “Since I was a kid, my mom was telling me about coming to the Opry in the ’70s, when she was younger. Whispering Bill was playing that night. She’ll never forget it. I’ve always hoped this day would come, so it’s very special.”

For McCreery, there wasn’t a bigger dream for him than to become a Grand Ole Opry member, joining the ranks of many of his musical heroes.

“It feels pretty fantastic, to be honest,” McCreery told Everything Nash. “It’s a dream come true. It’s an invitation — you never know if you’re going to get that call, so it just means the world. And how it went down, with Garth Brooks being the one to do the invitation, and Josh Turner being the guy to induct me. In my wildest dreams, I couldn’t have thought up anything better. I’m just so thankful.”

McCreery might have been young when he joined the Opry, but he plans on being around for a long, long time.

“I want to be a guy like Whispering Bill, that’s there a long time in your career.” McCreery says. “I want to be the guy that’s 85, still at the Opry singing ‘Five More Minutes.’ I’m looking forward to having that chance. I told somebody that it’s always felt like home, but now it’s actually going to be home. It’s just unreal.”

Shelton will also perform during the three-hour, televised Opry 100: A Live Celebration. Other performers include Alan Jackson, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Ashley McBryde, Carly Pearce, Carrie Underwood, Clint Black, Dierks Bentley, Garth Brooks, Jamey Johnson, Marty Stuart, Reba McEntire, Ricky Skaggs, Steven Curtis Chapman, Terri Clark, Trace Adkins, Travis Tritt, Trisha Yearwood and Vince Gill.

Luke Combs, Lainey Wilson, Brad Paisley, Kelsea Ballerini, and Keith Urban will perform live from the Grand Ole Opry’s former home, the Ryman Auditorium.

Opry 100: A Live Celebration will air live on Wednesday, March 19, from 8:00 PM to 11;00 PM ET on NBC, and also simulcast on Peacock.
