Scotty McCreery wrapped up his Cab In A Solo Tour earlier this year, where he was joined by rising star Anne Wilson for all of the dates. McCreery was thrilled to have Wilson join him on the road, becoming a fan of both her music and who she is away from the stage.
“Amazing. Amazing. She’s an amazing person, number one. Her family’s awesome. Her music is great. Her voice is just a powerhouse vocalist. And her songs are great. She checks every box. I think she’s going to have a long, long career. She’s already been crushing it, so now it’s transitioning to the country side of things a little bit. The sky is the limit for her.”
McCreery has yet to announce another tour, but he does hint he will be on the road for most of the year, playing songs from his upcoming Rise and Fall album, out on May 10. For McCreery, it’s the record he has always wanted to make, but wasn’t able to, until now.
“I just think for me, I’m at a place where I wasn’t going to make a record chasing trends, or chasing the top of the charts, or what sound is selling more tickets on the road,” McCreery tells Everything Nash. “I just want to make an album that feels good to me, feels good to my soul, touches on influences that I had growing up. I really think we did that on this record. To me, it’s the most ‘me’ record, and the most proud I’ve been of a record yet.”
The record includes his current Top 5 single, “Cab In A Solo,” “Slow Dance,” “Can’t Pass The Bar” and “Red Letter Blueprint,” among others, the latter a testament to his strong Christian faith.
“It’s a special one,” McCreery boasts, speaking of “Red Letter Blueprint.” “My faith has always been a huge part of who I am as a man, let alone as an artist. I always think of it as a trio: faith, family and friends. I think it’s a crazy world out there right now. I’ve seen the ups and downs in all of it. I think it’s easy to get lost out there, and to me, when you get that way, there’s an easy road map, an easy blueprint for you, and it’s right there in the good book, so that’s how the song came about.”
By the time the record comes out, McCreery will be an official member of the Grand Ole Opry. The North Carolina native will be inducted on April 20 by Josh Turner.
“It feels pretty fantastic, to be honest,” McCreery tells Everything Nash. “It’s a dream come true. It’s an invitation — you never know if you’re going to get that call, so it just means the world. And how it went down, with Garth Brooks being the one to do the invitation, and Josh Turner being the guy to induct me. In my wildest dreams, I couldn’t have thought up anything better. I’m just so thankful. It’s going to be a special, special night.”
Wilson’s REBEL album is out on April 19. The record includes collaborations with Lainey Wilson, Jordan Davis and Chris Tomlin. Find it, and all of Wilson’s upcoming shows, at AnneWilsonOfficial.com.
