Scotty McCreery Recalls Pivotal Moment in Relationship With Gabi: ‘It Was an Eye-Opener’

Scotty McCreery has a hit single at radio with “Fall of Summer,” the second single from his latest Rise & Fall album. The song, which McCreery wrote with  Brent Anderson, Derek George, Frank Rogers and Monty Criswell, is about a summer romance that changes once the season ends.

For McCreery, who began dating his wife, Gabi, while still in high school, the two never had a major breakup, but only because McCreery changed his ways.

“If me and Gabi had a ‘Fall of Summer’ love story, like one moment that was big for us, I was making records and writing songs and out on tour,” McCreery recalls in a video shared on social media. “She was thinking about breaking up with me, because I wasn’t making time for her. She brought that to my attention, and it was an eye-opener for me. I realized if she’s the most important thing in your world, you’ve gotta treat her like that. From that day forward, that’s been my goal every day.”

McCreery and Gabi have been married since 2018, and are the proud parents of two-year-old son, Avery. The American Idol alum might be more notorious, but he insists his career wouldn’t be as successful without her by his side.

“She’s right there in the middle of it. She’s my right-hand gal,” McCreery told Everything Nash and other outlets at a recent media event. “She hears every demo first. She hears the non-edited, work-tape version, when it’s just me and a bad vocal and a guitar. She’s really honest, and she’s great about ideas and what she’s thinking.”

Not only is Gabi instrumental in McCreery’s career decisions, but she is also his most important advocate and support system.

“Gabi has been a rock for me,” McCreery told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution of his wife. “I wouldn’t be here without her. She’s been here for all the ups and downs and has always been my biggest cheerleader.”

The 31-year-old also travels with his wife and son as much as possible, customizing his bus so that they can enjoy their home away from home.

“I got a little crib in the bus, and they get to travel around,” McCreery revealed. “If the show doesn’t start too late, Avery’s side stage, watching. We’ve had beach days together, we’ve had mountain trips where he’s crossed the bridge … We do a lot of stuff as a family. Just watching him grow up and realize what we do, it’s pretty cool.”

McCreery is headlining his own Fall of Summer Tour for the remainder of this year. He will spend part of 2025 on the road with Kane Brown, for Brown’s The High Road Tour, serving as one of the opening acts, along with Ashley CookeMitchell Tenpenny and Dasha. The High Road Tour will include McCreery’s first time ever playing at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. He is also headlining his own overseas tour in the UK as well next year.
