Scotty McCreery has another trophy to add to his collection, this one for something much more personal than his music successes. The 29-year-old is the latest recipient of the Randy Owen Angels Among Us Award, given to artists in honor of their support and commitment to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. McCreery received the award while he joined Owen and Craig Morgan in performing, as part of the annual Country Cares event.
“I am proud to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital,” McCreery shared on social media, along with a photo of Owen handing him the trophy. “The work they do is amazing and they never charge their patients — plus they share their research with hospitals around the world! If you are looking for a worthy organization to support, St Jude is at the top of the list of organizations you should consider.
“Receiving the Randy Owen Angel Among Us Award from Randy Owen himself is an honor I will never forget,” he added. “Had a blast performing with him and Craig Morgan. What a night!!”

Later, McCreery reflected on the honor of receiving the Angels Among Us Award.
“It is a tremendous honor to receive the Angels Among Us Award from St. Jude,” said McCreery. “The patients and families here have been an inspiration to me, just as I know they are to so many other Country artists as well. With continued support from country radio and our loyal listeners, who pitch in to play their part for this wonderful cause, we can make a difference together by helping ensure that no family receives a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing, or food, so they can focus on helping their child live. That’s a beautiful thing to me, and I’m happy to lend my voice in support of such an amazing cause. And then to receive this award from the legendary Randy Owen himself is a moment I’ll treasure always.”
St. Jude also spoke out about McCreery receiving the honor on social media, praising the American Idol alum for his tireless work for St. Jude.
“Last night our friend Scotty McCreery was honored with the Randy Owen Angel Among Us Award for the incredible support he has shown to the lifesaving mission of St. Jude since 2014,” they shared. “We’re so grateful that he’s part of our St. Jude family and has brought hope, through his voice and talents, to children everywhere.”
Other artists who have received the Randy Owen Angels Among Us Award include Florida Georgia Line, Lady A, Jake Owen, Brad Paisley, John Rich and Darius Rucker, among others.
McCreery will have a lot to celebrate throughout the remainder of 2022. In addition to becoming a father for the first time, when his wife Gabi gives birth to their baby boy (due on October 31), McCreery will also release his Same Truck: The Deluxe Album. The record, which includes six new tracks, will be out on November 18.
“We had more songs I loved ready for the original release of Same Truck than we could put on that album, so I am pumped that Triple Tigers asked me to do a Deluxe Edition where I could add six more songs,” McCreery explained. “We’ve also had a lot of requests for a vinyl version of Same Truck over the last year, so I’m excited we can offer that option as well.”
