It’s been a tough few days for Scotty McCreery. The American Idol alum is mourning the loss of his good friend, Yameer Greene, who was killed in a car crash in North Carolina earlier this week. Scotty honored Yameer by singing a cover of Vince Gill’s hit song, “Go Rest High on That Mountain.”
“For my buddy Yameer,” Scotty wrote alongside the song, which he shared on social media. “One of the kindest and brightest souls I’ve ever met. Everyone who knew him loved him. Love you and miss you man. Rest easy.”

Scotty also spoke out on Twitter about his friend’s death.
“Going to sleep with a heavy heart tonight,” Scotty posted. “Gonna miss you, Yameer. So many great memories with you that I will always hold on to. Everyone who knew you, loved you. Rest easy. I cant wait to see you again one day.”

Yameer and Scotty were classmates at Garner Magnet High School. Yameer was 26 years old when he was killed, as part of a three-car crash. According to WRAL, a Honda Accord was going well above the speed limit when it crashed through a median and went into oncoming traffic. The driver of the Honda and his passenger were also killed in the crash.
Scotty just celebrated his third consecutive No. 1 hit, with “In Between.” The song is from his Seasons Change record, released in 2018.
“Earning a No.1 record on ‘In Between,’ which is a song that defines me, is amazing,” Scotty said in a statement. “Earning three No.1 songs in a row is the perfect way to celebrate Seasons Change and how that album changed my life. I want to thank country radio for supporting my music, my fans for believing in me from day one, and both my management team Triple 8 Management and my record label Triple Tigers Records for always having my back and working side by side with me every day.”
