Scotty McCreery‘s “Damn Strait” is continuing its reign at the top of the charts for a third consecutive week. The American Idol alum spoke out about the song’s success, and his gratitude for being the one fortunate enough to sing the tribute to George Strait.
“Can’t tell y’all how unreal it is to say ‘Damn Strait’ has been the No. 1 song in the USA for 3 weeks!!!,” McCreery shared on Instagram. “This has been the most fun I’ve ever had with a song on the radio. Not even close. An ode to the King, and a classic country heartbreak song. Cmon man! As much fun as it is to sing, it’s even more fun hearing you fans scream it back to me every night! Thank you country radio, thank you to my team, and thank you to the FANS!!! Let’s gooo!!!!”
“Damn Strait” is McCreery’s fifth consecutive single to land at the top of the charts. The North Carolina said the tune was especially meaingful to him because of his love for Strait.
“This song is such a great tribute to one of my musical heroes, George Strait, while also using his song titles in a clever way to tell such a heartbreaking story,” McCreery said. “I’ve loved it from the moment I first heard it. It is one of my favorite songs that I’ve recorded, and the fans love it in concert as well. You can feel the anticipation in the air as they get ready to sing along on the chorus.”
McCreery is back at radio with another single, “It Matters To Her,” this one with a slight nod to another one of his country music idols, Brooks & Dunn.
“The coolest one for me is our next single, ‘It Matters To Her,” which, if you listen to it, speaking of Brooks & Dunn, it definitely has that inspiration to it,” McCreery told Audacy‘s Katie Neal. “And how could you not when I grew up listening to all their albums? This is the [song] where you start playing it and you see the crowd start trying to sing along like they already knew it, but then they realize like ‘Oh, I don’t know this song.’”
McCreery will celebrate the success of “Damn Strait” with a special show at Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, Texas, where Strait’s career began. The show will take place on September 23. Find all of McCreery’s music and tour dates by visiting his website.
