The video for “Cab In A Solo” features McCreery’s son, Avery, along with footage from McCreery’s performance after the historic University of Nebraska Ladies Volleyball Team’s winning match against Omaha and more.
“This video showcases both the quieter parts of my life like having my son Avery with me in the studio with Frank, as well as the wilder parts of my life such as performing in front of the biggest live audience of my career,” McCreery said when the “Cab In A Solo” video was released.
“Cab In A Solo” was the perfect way for the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry to introduce Rise and Fall, his fifth studio album.
“It’s one of my favorites I’ve written in a long time,” McCreery previously told Everything Nash, speaking of “Cab In A Solo.” “We went up to the mountains in North Carolina, just me and a bunch of buddies; guitars, cold beer and fireplaces. We sat outside and wrote songs. We wrote a bunch that weekend.
“But when I was driving back in the mountains, and even since then, I kept going back to ‘Cab In A Solo,’” he continued. “I kept going back to it. To me, that meant, ‘Oh, there’s something here.’ Luckily, everybody else loved it, and the label. We put it out there, and it’s been off to a great start.”
“Cab In A Solo” became McCreery’s sixth No. 1 hit, and a good indication of what fans can expect from Rise and Fall.
“I have loved this song from the moment Brent [Anderson], Frank [Rogers] and I started writing it,” McCreery said when the song landed at the top of the charts. “It may be all about heartbreak but it’s so fun to sing. I’m thrilled to see it reach No. 1. Thanks to the fans for supporting it and country radio for playing it!”
McCreery’s freshman Clear as Day album was released in 2011, shortly after he won American Idol. In the 13 years since then, the 30-year-old has learned the kind of music he does, and doesn’t, want to make.
“I just think for me, I’m at a place where I wasn’t going to make a record chasing trends, or chasing the top of the charts, or what sound is selling more tickets on the road,” McCreery said. “I just want to make an album that feels good to me, feels good to my soul, touches on influences that I had growing up. I really think we did that on this record. To me, it’s the most ‘me’ record, and the most proud I’ve been of a record yet.”
Rise and Fall will be available on May 10. Find all of McCreery’s music and upcoming shows at ScottyMcCreery.com.
