Scotty McCreery is enjoying another run at the top of one of radio’s charts. The country music hitmaker is celebrating “Fall of Summer,” his current single, hitting No. 1 on The Big 20 Countdown with Storme Warren, part of The BIG 615, the radio station owned and operated by Garth Brooks, as part of Brooks’ SEVENS Radio Network.
McCreery shared the exciting news on social media.
“Fall of Summer” is from McCreery’s latest Rise & Fall album, released last year. The song, which follows his sixth No. 1 hit with “Cab In A Solo,” hit a new milestone at radio when it was released, becoming the most added at country radio the week it was released.
It’s fitting that “Fall of Summer” landed in the top spot on a countdown that is part of Brooks’ empire, since it was Brooks who surprised McCreery with an invitation to join the Grand Ole Opry at the end of 2023. Brooks flew in to Nashville to invite McCreery, and then got on his plane and immediately flew back out again.
“If I thought I had any worry about him carrying the country music torch, I would’ve not been part of it,” Brooks told Music Mayhem. “This guy loves country music. He’s also a sweet kid. That’s what I love. And the truth is, you don’t know what you’re going to be in 20 years. None of us do. Scotty doesn’t know.
“I don’t know, but I can guarantee you this. He’s still going to be that same sweet kid because it’s in him, right?” he continued. “And that’s what the country music Opry is. I mean, that’s what the Opry is. It’s just good people. It’s a family, and that’s what you want when you go to Thanksgiving.”
When Brooks invited McCreery, the North Carolina native was not only stunned by the invitation, but overwhelmed by who was there, in person, to invite him to become the next member.
“I grew up listening to your records, and you’re what got me wanting to do this for a living, and I didn’t think that dream would ever become a reality,” McCreery said at the time. “But it is because of all of y’all sitting in this house tonight, so thank you very much. I could talk for hours. How long do we have tonight? When I got started doing this, people said, ‘What’s your goals?’ and I said, ‘One day I’d like to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry.’”
McCreery was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry by Josh Turner on April 20.
“This night is just, it’s unbelievable,” McCreery said during his induction ceremony. “It really is. My mama came to the Opry in 1978. Whispering Bill was playing that night, and I heard stories of the Opry, and heard the Opry, and have such a deep respect for this tradition, and the history of the Opry. If you listened to any of my interviews for the last 13 years of doing this, they’d say, ‘What’s your biggest goal in doing any of this?’ and I would always say, ‘One day I want to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry.’ I gotta go home and start writing a new bucket list.”
McCreery is already looking forward to a career milestone in 2025. The 31-year-old will perform for the first time at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, and his first Nashville show in five years, when he opens for Kane Brown on Brown’s The High Road Tour.
In addition to touring with Brown, McCreery will also headline his own UK Tour this year. Find all of McCreery’s music and upcoming shows, including his dates with Brown, at ScottyMcCreery.com.
