Seaforth just released “Talk About,” a fun new tune co-written by duo members Tom Jordan and Mitch Thompson, along with Jordan Schmidt and Andy Albert. The song, which follows their tender “Everything Falls for You,” is the perfect next chapter for the rising duo.
“Finally we got some music out. We wrote that one about two years ago now, which kind of feels crazy, ’cause this year has just dragged on so long,” Mitch told Everything Nash. “It feels like another life. We’re super pumped to get that one out. We’re really proud of it. We wrote it with some really good friends of ours, which makes the whole process even more enjoyable.
“It’s just a fun, love song, upbeat tempo that we needed to get out into the world,” he added. “We were playing it live a bunch, and people seemed to really respond to it well out on the road. So we just needed to get this out there, and we’re very glad we have.”
“Talk About” marks Seaforth’s fourth single. Together, they’ve had an impressive 40 million streams of their music — a massive feat for any artist, let alone a rising act. Their success, and quick embrace by country music, is validation that their hard decision to leave their native Australia to pursue music in Nashville, is already paying off for the two men, who have been friends since preschool.
“Tom was actually living in L.A. for a few years before I’d made my first trip to the U.S. at all,” Mitch recounted. “We had a year or two that he was living in the U.S., and I was in Australia. We hadn’t really connected in a minute; we were doing our own things. And then I came out to visit and I think we were both in a position in our personal careers where we were like, ‘What’s going on? What are we doing?’ And then he actually moved back to Australia to work on Seaforth with me back home.
“We were in the studio everyday, working on demos, trying to put something together that we can play in Nashville,” he continued. “After we made our first trip [to Nashville], I think we both were immediately like, ‘We need to move here.’ It wasn’t a question. It was like, ‘This is where we need to be.”
Seaforth was discovered while performing at Nashville’s popular The Basement venue, while they were still making trips between Nashville and Australia. But after securing a record deal, they made the permanent, albeit slightly painful, move to Music City, saying goodbye to their families in Australia in the process.
“They have always supported the whole process,” Mitch boasted. “They were so excited, but I feel like it was devastating excitement because when I told my mom we got the record deal, and we’re moving, she’s like, ‘Yes! Oh, but that means you’re leaving.”
The miles between Seaforth and their families feels even more separating this year, since the coronavirus pandemic has made traveling nearly impossible.
“This year it feels like we’re farther away than ever,” Tom acknowledged. “I was looking at flights back to Australia last night. It’s like $10,000 on Delta to fly on right now. It’s crazy. We’re here for a minute. We love it here, but yet that’s the hardest thing I think about being away is just missing family and friends and stuff, but it’s part of the sacrifice and the journeym and another fun fact of Seaforth.”
Separation from their loved ones aside, the duo is focusing on new music, and putting out the best songs they can, as fast as they can.
“This year kind of got flipped upside down for us,” Tom admitted. “We had a bunch of touring plans and shows. We had a rollout plan for music, and then everything changed. So we kind of took a second, re-navigated what it would look like for us. But we’re just going to continue to roll out music, I think, because that’s the best way for us to get in front of new people right now. We can’t be on the road, playing shows and stuff. We have some music that was super, super proud of, super excited about.”
