Shania Twain is ‘Really Grateful’ for Success of ‘The Woman in Me’

When Shania Twain released The Woman in Me in 1995, she had no idea how much that album would impact the rest of her life, or revolutionize country music as a genre. Eight singles were released from the record, including “Any Man of Mine,” “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under” and “No One Needs to Know,” among others, with some finding a place on the pop charts as well. After Shania’s eponymous freshman debut failed to have any hit singles, the success of The Woman in Me was a surprise to everyone, including Shania, who was suddenly one of the most in-demand artists in the world, of any genre.

“I certainly had no idea during the making of The Woman In Me that it would be such a pivotal moment in my life and in my career,” Shania told Fox News. “It changed everything. I had no idea what to expect as far as if it would succeed at all and then when it did start to succeed, of course [I had] no idea that it would come to this — 25 years later I would be celebrating a diamond edition.”

“I’m just really grateful,” she continued. “At the time, when it was happening, when I was starting to experience success with that album, I got so busy that I couldn’t even celebrate the successes in the moment. So it’s only now that I’m really celebrating what was going on then.”

The Canadian just released The Woman in Me: Diamond Edition, in honor of the 25th anniversary of the record, which was certified diamond for sales in excess of ten million copies – a rare feat in country music.

“This is the album that changed my career and has brought me to places that I would never have imagined even in my wildest dreams at the time,” Shania told Good Morning America. “I had high hopes, but where I am today, 25 years later, at the time was unimaginable. So this is a real celebration year for me, celebrating coming out as a very independent, open minded, very bold in what I had to say.”

The Woman in Me: Diamond Edition includes “previously unreleased tracks, live recordings, and mixes that trace the evolution of an album that changed the way country music sounded,” a press release explained. 16 previously unreleased tracks, including five live versions, from her Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas residency, along with a “Shania Vocal Mix,” containing early takes of 11 songs from nearly a year before the The Woman in Me was released, are also included.
