Just in time for Father’s Day, Steven Curtis Chapman released a new song, “That’s My Dad,” which paid tribute to his own father, Herb Chapman. The gospel singer also released a touching lyric video for “That’s My Dad,” showing personal footage of Steven and his father through the years.
“I’m really excited to share with you the lyric video for ‘That’s My Dad,” Steven shared on social media. “I had so many thoughts & memories of my dad come flooding back as I made this video.”
Steven credits his love of music to his father, which is why he felt compelled to honor him with “That’s My Dad.”
“It seems only right that I would finally write a song for the man who gave me a love for music, taught me how to appreciate a ‘great song’ and was in fact the first songwriter I ever knew,” Steven said of the song. “I’m very thankful for my dad and thankful I could share this song that he inspired on this Father’s Day weekend.”
Steven also recently released “Together (We’ll Get Through This),” as a word of encouragement for those struggling because of COVID-19.
“I want to kick the door open and get a little more light in,” Steven explained to Everything Nash. “If there’s a little bit of goodness, could I fan that flame with a song to just say what we all know? That’s not a big mystery or any big surprise to us. We do need each other. We’re made for relationships. That’s what we are created for. I believe. I’ve written a lot of songs about our relationship, first of all with our Maker, with our Creator, but then with each other. That’s kind of the whole point.
“And so something like this,” he added, “which is strange in that in this time of isolation and social distancing, the thing that I think we’re realizing –– I know I am ––it’s how much we need each other.”
Both “That’s My Dad” and “Together (We’ll Get Through This)” are available to download or stream via Steven’s website.
