The Tennessee State Capitol flags will fly at half-staff on Friday, July 10, in honor of Charlie Daniels. Governor Bill Lee shared the news at a briefing, sharing why he felt it was important to honor Charlie, whom he called “a legend in country music, an iconic man.”
“There have been many tributes to Charlie Daniels regarding his incredible talent, his iconic sound, his straight-talk approach, but for me, I am most impressed by his legacy of faith,” the Governor said. “Charlie often referred to Psalms 91, and talked about trusting the Lord. We all know he said his priorities are God, his family and his country, and then his work.
“And while he leaves behind a multi-faceted legacy, for me his legacy of faith rises above them all,” he continued, “and we will honor the life of Charlie Daniels, lowering the Capitol flags from sunrise to sunset on July 10.”
Charlie spoke out about his faith in his final TV interview, on FOX Nation‘s The Pursuit! with John Rich.
““If I didn’t have the Lord in my life, I don’t know where I’d be,” Charlie told John. “I really don’t know where I’d be. And there’s been times in my life when I did not have the Lord in my life, and bad things would happen. You don’t know where to go, you don’t know what to do. But I learned what my motto nowadays is, we try to walk by faith and not by sight. Because right now, with all the stuff that’s going on around us, especially in our business – you know, we’re probably going to be the last business to open, because we’ve got to put people together.
“You’ve got to stop and think, if you look around you, everything just looks bad 360 degrees,” he continued. “But if you look at it and say, my God’s bigger than this, my God controls this thing … This is the first time in my life I’ve ever seen anything happen that happened all over the world. I mean, the rich people couldn’t get out of here and go to the Riviera and get away from it. There’s no place to go. So what does that tell you? Who are you going to depend on?”
Charlie will be laid to rest on Friday as well. A procession, escorted by the Mt. Juliet Police Department and the Patriot Guard Rider, will escort his body from Sellers Funeral Home in Mount Juliet to World Outreach Church in Murfreesboro. The service, led by both SiriusXM’s Storme Warren and Pastor Allen Jackson, will include performances by Vince Gill, Travis Tritt, Gretchen Wilson and Trace Adkins. Following the service, Charlie’s body will be returned to the Mount Juliet Memorial Gardens, for a private service.
