The Highwomen just released the video for “Crowded Table,” from their self-titled freshman album. The song was written by band members Natalie Hemby and Brandi Carlile, along with hit songwriter, Lori McKenna.
The video for “Crowded Table” shows Natalie and Brandi, along with fellow band members Maren Morris and Amanda Shires, recording the song with guest vocalist Yola. The video, shot before the coronavirus pandemic forced everyone inside their homes, is bittersweet for Natalie.
“It made me tear up,” Natalie admitted on CBS This Morning. “I want to be around my buddies again, and making music is about being together.”
The women, who each also have successful solo careers as both artists and songwriters, find solace in the fact that everyone is going through this together, even while staying apart.
“That’s the weird kind of comforting thing about it,” Natalie acknowledged. “Not just one person is being affected. We’re all kind of being affected together. So I can only imagine the celebration when we all come back together.”
All of the members in The Highwomen are eager, now more than ever, to return not only to the stage, but to being together as a band again.
“Hope is a dangerous thing, but it’s a wonderful thing,” Natalie said. “Music helps us get through all of this, all the bad times, and people will want to hear music again.”
The Highwomen released their freshman album in September. They are currently scheduled to perform in August at Chicago’s Wrigley Field with Chris Stapleton. Keep track of updates and download or stream “Crowded Table” at TheHighwomen.com.
