Madeline Consoer’s debut EP is out! The singer, who was on Kelly Clarkson‘s team on Season 19 of The Voice in 2020, just released Little Miss, co-writing four of the five songs on her first project, which is a blend of country and rock, united by Consoer’s own eclectic taste in music.
“I think the diversity of the record is something that I’m most excited about,” Consoer tells Everything Nash. “I know it’s important to pick a genre and stick to it, so you can have a fan base, but I’ve always just been such a huge fan of music all over the board. I grew up listening to Van Halen with my dad, and Faith Hill with my mom, and then Shania Twain and Britney Spears. My musical influences are all over the map, and I just love all kinds of music.”
Consoer enlisted Jerry Alan Jacobs to produce Little Miss, relying on one of her musical idols to guide her as she chose the songs for her project.
“When I went to Jerry, I was like, ‘I just wanna do something really different, and I don’t want all the songs to sound the same,'” Consoer recalls telling him. “‘I want a rock song, I want a pop song, I want a country song.’ And I think that’s kind of what Shania Twain did as well, and she’s my biggest influence, and my biggest role model. I look up to her in every single song I write, every single song I perform, the way I dress. She paved the way for bending the genre guidelines and that’s just kind of what I want to do too.”
Consoer learned plenty from her time on The Voice, even if she didn’t make it to the finale — lessons she is carrying with her as she launches her solo career.
“I got to work with some of the best vocal coaches out there,” Consoer shares. “I learned a lot about my voice. I learned a lot about who I am, how I work under stress, how I work under really anxious situations … Working with Kelly was crazy. And that band — I felt lucky the whole time to go into the studio and work with this band that’s played with everybody. If you think about it, this band has played with Morgan Wallen back in the day. This band has played with Danielle Bradbery. his band has played with RaeLynn, and they also played with me. It’s just crazy. It was a whirlwind experience that I just feel so lucky that I was able to be a part of for however how long it was.”
Little Miss might have already come out, but the rising star is already thinking about releasing more music, and hopefully soon.
“We might do a deluxe version and add a couple of other versions of the songs, and maybe a new song,” Consoer hints. “But I think I just want to play shows everywhere. That’s my goal. I want to be a touring musician and I think get as much music out as I can to help the fans learn who I am, and get used to my sound so I can play those shows and hopefully play something that they want to hear.”
