Brittney, a nurse, is also a talented singer. The couple released “Wherever Time Goes” together in 2022, a song Hoot wrote with Houston Phillips and Michael Farre, and was inspired by Hoot’s love for his family.

“It came from a sense of, all three of us are parents and married, and we were all talking about just how fast time continues to go as you get older,” Hoot explained to Everything Nash. “You’re gonna spend that time somewhere, whether it’s on your phone, whether it’s on the computer, whether it’s a video game system, whether it’s out fishing.

“And as it goes quicker and quicker, I feel like it gets more and more precious because it just does seem like there’s not as much of it,” he continued. “And so, we talked about that special person being where that time went as you go along.”

Hoot won The Voice in 2019, on Kelly Clarkson‘s team. The two later combined their talents on “I Would’ve Loved You.” The song, from Hoot’s Love Out of Time EP, was written by Hoot, along with Dean Sams and Jamie Floyd.

“When we wrote it, I said, ‘I think this would be awesome if we got Kelly to sing on this,’” Hoot recalled. “When I was on The Voice, she said, ‘Hey, let’s do something together.’ So I sent it to her, and didn’t hear anything. And then later on in the year, when we were seriously considering putting this on the album,  I said, ‘You know what? I’m just going to text her again,’ because I had to ask her a couple of questions about other things.”

Fortunately, once Clarkson did hear it, she quickly agreed to join Hoot on the track, which surpassed two million streams after it was released on Spotify.

“She called me back immediately and she said, ‘I want to shout this from the rooftops. Yes, I’m in,” Hoot later said. “Like, let’s get this done. And so trying to coordinate her incredibly busy schedule with mine, recording everything and then also a wedding coming up and then having to fly to LA to record, or having to send stuff out there, it just all worked perfectly.”

A due date for the new baby has yet to be announced. All of Hoot’s music can be found at JakeHoot.com.
