Chrissy Metz is known for her hit role in the TV show This Is Us, as well as in the hit movie Breakthrough, among others. But the Florida native says music was the thing she wanted to pursue first, but got too busy as an actress to focus on it, until now.
“Music was always my first love, and it sort of got pushed to the back burner,” Chrissy told CMT‘s Cody Alan. “Country music for me, well, I grew up with it, and I have always loved it.”
It’s the twists and turns of country music that made her fall in love with the genre at an early age.
“When it comes to country, I love the storytelling of it,” Chrissy explained. “Like, when you hear a verse, and you think, “Oh, what’s the turning point of the chorus going to be?” Those are just really special aspects of country music that I have always loved.”
Chrissy, who is working on her debut album, says country music fits whatever mood she is in at the moment.
“Country music for me has always been about the values of what the storytelling really is about, and it always really spoke to my soul and my spirit and my heart,” Chrissy previously explained. “You can cry to it, you can dance to it, you can have the best road trips to it. I just love me some country music. The artists that I really admire are beautiful storytellers that really speak from the heart and they just sing and tell stories about real life in their most authentic self.”
The 39-year-old just released a song, appropriately titled “Actress,” from her upcoming project.
“I love a good break up song and I love the play on words,” Chrissy said of the song. “Obviously, I’m an actress, but we have all had those experiences where we put on that brave face when our heart is just broken, we act as if nothing is wrong even though you’re dying inside — wanting something so desperately you don’t have anymore.”
Chrissy will make her Grand Ole Opry debut this Saturday, July 25. Find viewing options at Opry.com.
